I cannot recommend The Hub dental practice enough. They got me in on the same day for an emergency wisdom tooth extraction and the care I have been given is incredible. As someone who is afraid of dentists and super squeamish, Selcuk & Karolina were wonderful and so patient, making the entire procedure completely painless. I highly recommend this practice.

What is oral surgery?

95% of oral surgery cases relate to tooth extraction, though the area covers a number of other procedures including:

Safe and effective oral surgery procedures

Oral Surgery is an intricate field of dentistry that serves as a connection between dental care, medical treatment and surgery. It involves managing surgical conditions related to the teeth, mouth, face and jaw, and includes procedures such as extractions, implants and treatment for TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder.

Expert sedation services

Many patients are happy to have teeth extracted under local anaesthetic, though we also offer highly effective IV sedation for more severe cases or for those who have a dental phobia. We will do all we can to put you at ease and ensure that your treatment is as stress-free and painless as possible.

We have a highly qualified and experienced dental sedationist in Dr Etienne Deysel (GMC number 4562333) and further information about these services can be found on our sedation page.

Oral surgery FAQs

If you’re experiencing intense pain caused by a damaged tooth that can’t be restored (or that’s causing problems for your other teeth), your dentist may suggest a surgical intervention to extract it.

Oral surgery may also be required to treat damage after an accident. Other examples are when a disease is impacting the mouth or if the jaw needs added structure in order to support a dental implant.

The extraction of wisdom teeth is a common surgical procedure that becomes necessary if they become impacted.

Some dentists and oral surgeons may recommend wisdom tooth extraction even if the impacted teeth are not creating difficulties at the present time. This is in order to avoid potential complications later on.

A local anaesthetic will be administered prior to the procedure. This numbs the area around the affected tooth so that you won’t feel any discomfort..

We also offer IV sedation for more complex cases or when patients are particularly anxious.

Gently swirl warm salt water around your mouth to help relieve painful, swollen gums. Be sure to check that the temperature of the water isn’t too hot before use.

Alternatively, Corsodyl is an effective antibacterial mouthwash that can help reduce inflammation.

Pain-relieving tablets, like paracetamol or aspirin, can also be a helpful option in the short-term. However, if you are still experiencing discomfort after trying these then it’s best to consult your dentist.
