Special shout out to Nur (the hygienist) for her cheerful and kind manner - she really does manage to put a smile on your face at 8am in the morning. We would also like to thank Rebecca for her professionalism. Highly recommended dental practice.

The advantages of regular hygiene appointments

Protecting your smile with hygiene appointments

Regular dental hygiene appointments are an essential part of looking after the health of your teeth and gums. Professional cleaning is able to achieve much more effective results than brushing and flossing at home.

Our hygiene appointments require an initial (followed by yearly) check-up from the dentist to assess your gums and confirm that our hygiene treatments are appropriate for you.

Taking care of the basics and keeping your mouth clean and healthy will minimise the risk of future dental problems. Recent studies have also shown that looking after your oral health can prevent chronic conditions such as heart disease and diabetes.

Dental hygiene FAQs

Tooth sensitivity is very common and it can be an issue at hygiene appointments for some patients. Our hygienists therefore use the latest ultrasonic technology to help make the process more comfortable.

We have also discovered other helpful ways to decrease sensitivity, such as elevating the temperature of the water and even providing local anaesthesia in some cases.

If sensitivity is still a significant problem, we suggest seeing one of our dentists for further assessment. In cases of substantial gum disease and recession, you may be referred to one of our periodontists, who are specially trained to treat these issues.

Yes. You will, however, need to obtain a referral letter from your dentist in order to receive treatment from our hygienist.

Unfortunately, other dentists can be reluctant to do this. Many patients, therefore, come to our practice for their once-a-year dental check-up (which costs £25 plus the cost of any necessary X-rays).

You can indeed! Patients who visit the hygienist for a scale and polish every quarter (three months) or more can receive a very cheap discounted rate of £45 per appointment… £20 off our standard price of £65!

As well as brushing teeth twice a day, daily hygiene routines should include flossing to remove debris from between teeth. interdental brushes can also be used to clean the sides of teeth which have larger gaps next to them that aren’t accessible with a toothbrush.

If you need advice on selecting or using interdental brushes, your hygienist will be happy to provide guidance.

If you have an issue that needs referring on, we have the advantage of being a large practice with many experienced dentists who can carry out treatment across a number of specialist areas. Our team liaise closely together meaning you’ll always be in the best possible hands.

Please note: If you have not had a recent check up with us, we’ll need to get you seen by a general dentist first. The cost for this is £25 plus the cost of x-rays. This is to ensure that the correct type of hygienist treatment is prescribed.

We look forward to seeing you at the practice.
